Devon's Jo Pavey eyes personal best in Yokohama Women's Marathon
OLYMPIAN Jo Pavey admits she is harbouring hopes of beating her personal best time over 26.2 miles when she tackles the Yokohama Women's Marathon in Japan on Sunday.
The Tiverton-based runner's best time over a full marathon course of 2hrs 28mins 24secs came at the 2011 London Marathon, although she also clocked 2:28.42 on the more challenging New York route.
And the 39-year-old feels the favourable topography of the Japanese course could work in her favour as she looks to better her current PB.
"It would be nice to get my PB down, it is a nice course," she explained. "I thoroughly enjoyed running New York last year but I just thought this year it would be a good idea to try a flatter course and see how I get on.

"It's a great opportunity to run in a competitive race on a fast course and it's so exciting to go to Japan because there's such a culture of marathon running over there."
Pavey has decided to switch her attention back to the tarmac following her strong showing on the track at London 2012.
The Honiton-born athlete managed seventh-placed finishes in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, setting a personal best in the longer distance, but feels she is more than prepared to tackle longer distances once again.
"I've done all the preparation," she said. "I just hope everything is okay on the day. I'm really looking forward to it."
