A MECHANICAL digger was severely damaged by fire along with three metres of hedgerow at Witheridge on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from Witheridge were called to Chapple Road at 5.09am.

They used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to put out the blaze.

The fire service said the cause was accidental.
