Driver in pensioner hit-and-run 'may have thought he hit animal'
Police believe a hit-and-run driver who left an elderly man seriously injured may have mistakenly thought the collision involved an animal.
Traffic officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information in Devon and Cornwall to come forward after a 79-year-old man was found on the A35 in Dorset on Sunday. The man, from Bridport, was left with "very severe" injuries which will "seriously affect him for the rest of his life" after the incident on Chideock Hill.

Police Sergeant Jon Wren, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, said: "Because of the time the incident occurred the motorist might have had the impression that an animal rather than a human was hit.
"I would therefore like to speak to anyone who has been in collision with anything and however small along this road during that night.
