Embarking on Atlantic adventure
TWO friends from Appledore will be joining three others to embark on a sail across the Atlantic, from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean.
Steve Long, 57, and Tom Prideaux, 52, will set sail on a catamaran from Gran Canaria on Sunday, November 25 as part of the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers event.

He said: "There will be over 200 vessels setting off on the trip and we are handicapped according to our ability. We will be among the other multi hulled boats.
"The catamaran we are on has two hulls and we hope it will take us about 16 days, as long as we cover about 200 miles a day. So will we get to St Lucia in mid December.
"Last time I did it we stopped in the middle of the Atlantic and had a swim so we are hoping to do the same again."
The pair are holding a raffle to raise money for the junior section of the pilot gig club.
Tickets are £2 each and are available from The Quay Cafe or The Reform Inn in Barnstaple.
Those buying a ticket will be asked to put down how many miles they think the team will travel during the trip.
Until they have completed it, no one knows the figure. It could be anywhere between 2,000 to 3,000 miles.
The raffle will be drawn after Christmas and half the money raised will go to the winner.
