Emergency services rescued two lambs which became trapped on a North Devon cliff face this morning.

Firefighters and the Specialist Rescue Team from Barnstaple were initially called to a report of one trapped lamb on a cliff face at The Old Quarry on Hubbastone Road, Appledore, just before 10am this morning.

While they were trying to rescue the lamb, they discovered another trapped lamb nearby.

Both of the stricken animals were trapped on the cliff face, approximately 50 feet up.

Using safety at height equipment, crews were able to free the uninjured lambs.

A local farmer also attended the incident.

“Sorry bantastic isn't that what they are paid for? rescuing.
If they weren't doing that they would be sat back at the station doing what they normally do, NOTHING. Well maybe watching TV, playing pool, sleeping etc, its a really cushy job at least they get out and do something for a change.”

“What a COMPLETE waste of time and money. Why put human life and risk saving a lamb that is about to go to slaughter anyway?? It says a local farmer attended the 'incident', if it was his lambs then HE should pay for the cost of recovering the lambs.”

“BenDover169 Lambs are born this time of year because ewes come into season when the days get shorter, and are pregnant for 5 months. The one exception is the dorset horn sheep which have their lambs in december. Not sure why, I'll ask my farming friends next time I see them.”

“Lamb chops that cost more than truffles - or are they somebody's pets! They'd have done better left there if they're going to end up in any of the scandal-ridden abattoirs always in the news.”
