AN energy company has announced it is cutting the height of six proposed wind turbines.

EDF Energy Renewables wants to create the Hollow Panson wind farm near Holsworthy.

It originally proposed turbines which would be 126.5 metres tall – making them the tallest in Torridge.

But today the company announced it has reduced the proposed height by 11.5 metres – meaning each turbine would have a tip height of 115 metres.

The site at Chapman's Well is east of the A388 between Launceston and Holsworthy.

A planning application for the scheme is likely to be submitted to Torridge District Council by the end of the year.

Tim Wheeler, onshore wind development manager for EDF Energy Renewables, said:  "Since unveiling our plans to establish a wind farm at Hollow Panson earlier this year, we have continued to carry out on-site surveys and have sought local community feedback on the proposals.

"As a result of this work we can now confirm that it is our intention to proceed with proposals to establish a six turbine wind farm on the site, but that the overall height of the turbines will be reduced from that originally proposed. This is in response to concerns about the impact of the proposal on the landscape."

The company has circulated a new leaflet on its proposals to local households.

The leaflet, along with a new 3D visualisation program that shows views from the site from a tour around its perimeter is also available at www.hollowpansonwindfarm.co.uk.

“Does anyone believe this sort of PR garbage anymore?

Every single time we see turbine speculators suggesting a grossly excessive number of excessively high turbines before generously responding to 'public consultation' by cutting heights and numbers to the level they have been planning for their application all along.

I am still waiting for the day when they actually listen to local people and abandon the whole idea!”

“Oh goody, only another 115 metres to cut down.”
