FOOD REVIEW: Appledore Chipyard
AS soon as anyone mentions fish and chips to me I become instantly defensive and demand to know what it is about the ones in question that make them so good.
My family owns Taffs Fish and Chips in Torrington and therefore I am quick to profess how amazing they are to anyone who'll listen.
Having said that, I don't feel one bit guilty about insisting that everyone who reads this must go and try the new range of sustainable fish and chips on offer at the Appledore Chipyard, part of the Quay Café in Appledore.
I cannot think of any other way to describe them than a pure taste sensation.

If you read last week's Journal you'll have seen that what owner Steve Lock is offering are delicious goujons in a range of fish not usually seen on your average chippy menu.
So a team of eager and extremely hungry Journal reporters descended upon the restaurant to give the fish a taste test.
I took the plunge and went for the lemon sole and the much-raved about smoked salmon. That was the first plus point: being able to mix and match your fish.
I sat watching as other people's meals were brought out and, while my stomach was rumbling, I was thinking the portions looked monumental.
My fish arrived looking beautifully crispy alongside a portion of golden hand cut chips and I began to tuck in.
What happened to my taste buds as the battered smoked salmon hit them was incredible.
The normally overly-fishy smoked salmon had been reduced almost to a creamy texture which, combined with the crispness of the batter, left me wishing I had ordered more.
The lemon sole, while still delicious, paled in comparison to the smoked salmon.
Alongside the fish and chips Steve supplied us with plenty of creamy tartar sauce and pots of pureed peas with a touch of mint. Perfection.
I finished my meal feeling completely wowed and comfortably full. I think I could probably even have fitted in another goujon.
Which was good because Steve was soon over offering us one of his delicious looking home-made cakes.
We all agreed the chocolate and orange cake looked incredible, if slightly rich. Lucky I had my boyfriend on hand to share one with.
Accompanied with silky clotted cream it was a pudding addict's dream.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by everybody. Steve was more than accommodating to us all in what was a completely relaxed, inviting environment.
