Family and friends bid fond farewell to Bampton teenager Luke Lyons
NEARLY 20 cars driven by friends and family of Bampton teenager Luke Lyons made up a convoy escorting him to his final resting place.
Setting off from Halfords in Tiverton yesterday morning, the group travelled the seven miles together to St Michael and All Angels' Church in Bampton for the midday funeral service, passing the spot where Luke died in an road accident on Friday, January 25.
Luke had been travelling to work in silver Renault Clio early that morning, but never arrived at his place of employment. Later that day, the van was found at the bottom of a bank near Bickleigh Woods, having dropped around 40ft.
The funeral convoy was headed by the hearse and followed by Luke's blue Vauxhall Corsa VXR, driven by a friend of the family.

Luke's coffin was the same colour as his car and carried a VXR logo and a yellow number plate reading 'LUKE 1'.
Funeral arrangements were made by Tiverton funeral director Ryan Squires, with donations in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.
Many of the vehicles which took part in the procession had also been part of a trip from Tiverton to the seafront to Exmouth in memory of Luke held earlier this month.
The Gazette attended the meting point at Halfords car park in Kennedy Way at the invitation of Luke's mother Denise.
