NORTH DEVON'S bowlers were dominant as they took control of the Farm and Cottage Holidays North Devon League title race.

The leaders bowled out second-placed Filleigh for just 110 at Instow.

And they knocked off the runs for the loss of four wickets to extend their lead in the first division to 1.1 average points.

Filleigh, chasing their first title, dropped to third place behind Heathcoat, who were 54-run winners over Morebath.

Jas Kalsi (37) and Mark Prideaux (30) hinted at better things, but once they were out, Filleigh slipped to an under-par total.

Jamie Overton and slow left-armers Dan Bowser and Matt Dart each took three wickets. The other fell to Craig Overton.

Dan Pickard guided the North Devon run chase, making 54.

John Higgs scored 59 and took four wickets in Braunton's 61-run win over bottom side Victoria Park.

The visitors posted 193, with Alex Hodges adding 42, before bowling out Victoria Park for 132. Higgs took four for 33 and Barney Huxtable finished with four for 29.

Will Anderson, with 27, and Marc Bettiss, 24, were the top scorers.

Third division leaders Weare Giffard suffered a hiccup against Sandford.

But they did well to restrict the Mid Devon side to a two-wicket win after being bowled out for 99.

Martin Beer (27) and Ian Dury (21) were Giffard's main contributors.

Billy Curtis gave Sandford a scare with four for 18 but they scrambled home at 100 for eight to put themselves into the promotion shake-up.

North Devon's second XI, lying second on Sunday morning, were unable to capitalise on the leaders' defeat.

They were undone by a dangerous Bude team who are seventh in the table but would have gone third had they not been deducted two points from their average for failing to fulfil a fixture earlier in the season.

Matt Mansbridge's 86 was the basis for Bude's 257 for eight, helped by 52 from Ben Purcell. Ray Clark took three for 45 for North Devon.

Joby Woofenden-Brown (3-31) did most to restrict the visitors' reply which ended on 163 for eight. Jake Kelly hit 43.

Shobrooke Park replaced North Devon in second place as Ross Knoll's unbeaten 130 saw them chase down 221 to beat Westleigh by five wickets.

James Corry was stranded short of a century on 92 not out in Westleigh's 220.

Pete Stevens smashed 70 off just 45 balls for Bideford second XI in their win over Filleigh second XI.

Having set 165 for nine, Filleigh were taken apart by Stevens and Andy Webbe, who made 66 from 76 balls in an eight-wicket victory.

Kelseymen launched themselves out of the fourth division relegation zone with a convincing win against Bratton Fleming second XI.

Bratton's seven-wicket defeat leaves them in the bottom two with five matches to play.

Searching for their first win since the opening game of the season, Kelseymen rolled out their visitors for just 75. Tom Johnson took three for seven, 14-year-old Craig Lugsden had three for ten, and captain Gary Gomez knocked over three for 19.

Neil Ayre took down three Kelseymen batters, but he could not get Wayne Manning, who guided his side to victory with 34 not out.

Leaders Newton Tracey second XI were on top in their match against Halberton, who also had to field a side in the Mid Devon Twenty20 finals day.Newton made 260 and bowled out their hosts for 109.

Matt Falkiner's half century helped Lynton and Lynmouth seconds to a 49-run win against Victoria Park's second XI.

He made 56 in Lynton's 192, which saw Tom Hayne and Mark Slade take three wickets each.

Victoria Park had reached 143 when their last wicket fell. Stewart Russell made 36, while Steve Lake took three for 27.

Bishop's Nympton were unable to stop fifth division leaders Heathcoat second XI.

Nympton hit just 83 in reply to Heathcoat's 234 for five. Kelvyn Warren, the captain, accounted for more than half their runs with an unbeaten 45.

Nomansland have won only twice this season — and Barnstaple and Pilton's third XI were their victims on both occasions.

Having beaten them by seven wickets in their first match of the season, Nomansland did even better this time with a margin of nine wickets.

Spinner Ryan Bowden took four for 29 in Barum's 153.

A wicket fell with just three on the board in their reply, but Gordon McGovern (78no) and Gary Say (55no) combined to win the match.

Petrockstowe enjoyed wins over Filleigh third XI on Saturday and Cheriton Fitzpaine the next day.

Having posted 142, they bowled out Filleigh for 121 to win by 21 runs.

The victory over Cheriton was more convincing. Lee Cockwill made 65 in a total of 242 for nine. Ian Cockwill then followed up his 44 with the bat by taking three for 16 in Cheriton's 103 all out.
