Firefighters called to report of car fire near Instow

Fire crews were called to a report of a car fire between Instow and Yelland at lunchtime today.

One fire engine from Barnstaple attended the scene in Rectory Lane after the female driver rang 999.

Firefighters said she became concerned after smoke started emitting from underneath the bonnet and pulled over to ring the emergency services.

Fire crews said the car had simply broken-down and there was no sign any fire had occurred in the vehicle.

Crews pushed the car off the highway and disconnected the battery as a precaution.

The vehicle was left in the hands of the driver, who was advised to contact a breakdown recovery service.
