Firemen rescue horse from slurry pit near South Molton
A horse was rescued from a slurry pit near South Molton by firefighters last night, after it became stuck fast.
One fire engine from Dulverton and the special rescue team from Barnstaple headed to the callout at 7.30pm last night, after a member of the public spotted the horse in distress in a field at a farm in Ash Mill, near South Molton.

Firefighter Simon Lott headed up the special rescue team from Barnstaple.
"It was pretty much the muddiest scene you could ever imagine," he said.

"But eventually we managed to get the horse out using strops and the pulling power of a tractor."
The crew was at the scene for around five hours and had to wait for a vet to sedate the horse before the rescue operation could begin.
But the wait was worth it, with the horse apparently unscathed.
"It took a long time to get on its feet," said Simon, "but once it was up and about as far as we know it was ok."
The crew arrived back at the station at around 1am and spent the next hour cleaning kit.
