People in Bideford have been left shocked after sofas, cookers, beds, mattresses and a fridge were all abandoned in a street in the latest bout of fly tipping in North Devon.

Following a phone call from a member of the public, Torridge District Council's Green Team were immediately dispatched to the sites on Allhalland Street and Conduit Lane, in Bideford, to collect all the items.

The council's Enviro-Crime Officer Andy Fenge is leading an investigation into the incident and is checking the CCTV footage and making his own enquiries to try and establish where the property originated from.

He said: "Occasionally when somebody moves address we get one or two items placed out that shouldn't be there.

"However this case is exceptional. It appears that someone has dumped most of the contents of their home on the street in the middle of town. It must have taken some time to move all of this property and someone must have seen it happening.

"We are currently making enquiries to establish who is responsible for this and would appreciate any information that the public can provide."

It is thought the incident took place on Sunday evening and anyone with any information is asked to call Andy on 01237 428760.
