Fuel thieves damage cars to get petrol
THIEVES have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to cars by trying to illegally siphon just a few pounds worth of petrol from fuel tanks, police have reported.
Officers in Ilfracombe have warned car owners to be vigilant after two incidents of petrol theft from vehicles on Queens Avenue overnight between February 21 and 22.
The vehicles in question, a Gold Volvo and a Vauxhall Astra, had their petrol tanks drilled into and fuel siphoned out.
North Devon Sector Inspector Roger Bartlett said: "On the Volvo the thieves caused around £1,000 worth of damage to extract about £20 worth of petrol, which is ridiculous.
