THE SUCCESSFUL applicants for funding from the North Devon Sports Foundation will be named next month.

Clubs and individuals to be supported by the charity have been invited to the Saunton Sands Hotel on March 13.

They will be presented with cheques by sports celebrities who are visiting North Devon for the Foundation's latest fundraiser.

On March 14, at Saunton Golf Club, a team of former footballers from Aston Villa will take on a team of international cricketers in the Saunton Golf Challenge.

And local golfers are invited to join the teams for the competition, to be played in a Ryder Cup format.

For £200, the package includes two night's accommodation at Saunton Sands Hotel, meals, green fee, a golf shirt and team photograph.

Non-golfers can attend a screening of Cheltenham Festival Ladies Day. For £140 their package includes accommodation and food, minus the green fee and post-golf buffet.

This winter the North Devon Sports Foundation has raised more than £8,000 for sports people and clubs in the area.

Funds from the Saunton Golf Challenge will be split between the foundation and the Aston Villa Former Players Association.
