MIKE HEDDEN has been appointed North Devon's new captain.

Hedden, who during the football season captains Ilfracombe Town, will lead the Instow club's first XI in the Francis Clark Devon League.

A hard-hitting batsman, Hedden played an important role in North Devon's Jail Ale Devon Twenty20 triumph last summer.

He replaces wicketkeeper Rob Ayre as captain.
