Initially, 1,999 homes and businesses were affected after the wooden pole suffered an electrical fault in Windsor Road at around 8.26am.
Miles Ivan Hamer, who saw the pole sparking, wrote on Twitter: “Just walked past a pylon exploding in Windsor Road. Quite exciting/scary. Pilton/Bradiford electricity out.”
And Steve Paine wrote: “Power out in Bradiford, Pilton after a loud bang! Anybody know what is going on? #powercut”

Western Power Distribution said all but 29 of the 1,999 homes affected had their power restored within 15 minutes after their electricity was switched to an alternative supply.
However, 29 homes remain without power until engineers can fix the problem which isn’t expected to be until later this afternoon.
A spokeswoman for Western Power Distribution said the problem was caused by a fault in the cable termination point.
She said: “We apologise to anybody affected by this incident. The fact we managed to get power back to the majority of those customers so quickly shows we put our customers first.
“Engineers are currently working at the scene to fix the problem and when they do power will be restored to those other 29 homes.”
