Ilfracombe's near misses
CORSHAM TOWN had not even scored a goal on their previous four visits to Marlborough Park.
That sorry record was extended to five games on Saturday.
Not that the visitors will be too disappointed with their 0-0 draw against Ilfracombe Town.
While they earned a precious point in the battle against relegation, the Bluebirds were frustrated not to take all three.
Neither side would have taken any points for artistic impression.
With the wind raging across the ground and the pitch still showing scars from the FA Carlsberg Vase tie against Larkhall Athletic last month, it was a turgid game.
In fairness to the players, even Xavi, Iniesta and Messi would have struggled to play the beautiful game in those conditions.
Set pieces looked like the only way to make a breakthrough and Ilfracombe had plenty of near misses.
When Ross Middleton sent over a free kick, Tom Rossiter's header was cleared off the line and the ball somehow eluded Craig Allan who was lurking for a tap-in.
Rossiter then missed a sitter when he headed against the post, and Mike Hedden fared no better, also striking the upright from the rebound.
The woodwork was no more helpful for Ilfracombe in the second half.
Oliver Webb, the Corsham defender, headed against his own crossbar as he attempted to deal with Josh Heafield's free kick.
And in stoppage time another delivery from Heafield was nodded against the post from six yards.
Credit to Corsham who were organised and resilient to frustrate the Bluebirds. Matt Windle, the centre back, had a fine game to keep Shaun Lewis under wraps.
The visitors might even have pinched the win when Liam Brown saw his rasping drive clip the bar in the 86th minute.
