This is NorthDevon

Name: Jordan Reed.

Age: 23.

Lives: Appledore.

Where do you surf? Westward Ho!, Croyde, Lynmouth and other secret spots around Devon and Cornwall.

How long have you been surfing? I was three years old when I first got put on a board — it's been difficult to get me off ever since.

What got you involved with surfing? My dad was my biggest inspiration to surf. I joined Westward Ho! Surf Club when I was 13 where I met some great friends who have influenced me a lot.

Who rips in North Devon? Michael Plackett, Parky, Lloydy and all of the up-and-coming groms from Westward Ho!

Who's the best up-and-coming surfer in the area? Harry Jones from Westward Ho! Surf Club.

What's your most memorable session and why? Lakey Peak, April 2008. Not a breath of wind, 6-8ft, with loads of kegs with Parko, Andy Irons and some of the lads from back home . . . perfection!

What is the best thing about surfing for you? Every wave is different, you never know what you're going to get out of it. It's an amazing rush.

What would you say to people wanting to get involved with the sport? Don't be put off if you're not that into it to start with, surfing can generally take a while to get into, then you reach a point where you're hooked.

Where else have you surfed in the world? Indonesia, Australia, Caribbean, Canaries, Morroco, France, Spain and Portugal.

How does North Devon compare to other global surf spots? Its not as consistent and from November through to April it's too chilly for my liking — but it can be as good as anywhere in the world on its day (rare).

What's the worst thing about surfing? Cutting your feet, driving long distances to get a decent wave and airline rip-offs!

Your opinion on hired equipment? Hiring equipment is excellent for local businesses, the only downside is when inexperienced people hire it and don't know the safety aspects of surfing.

What about surf schools, anything to say? There are too many at one particular beach in North Devon, which is dangerous and annoying for the experienced surfers.

Best wave you've surfed? Lakey Peak, Indo.

Most overrated wave? Saunton.

Most underrated wave? Westward Ho!

Are you sponsored? Yes, by DB Surfboards. I'd be interested in any offers though!

What do you think about competitive surfing? It's good to understand the level of competition around you and I think it helps you improve.

Competition results? 2009: semi-finals at Jesus Surf Classic.

2004: 2nd place Bude Surf Classic, 2nd place Cornish and Open Juniors, 2nd place Ripcurl Juniors.

2003: 3rd place: Bude Surf Classic, 3rd place British Surfing Championships.

2002: 2nd place British Schools Surfing Championships.

Anything else to say? See you in the lineup!
