Kate's summer event in memory of her fallen hero cousin Dane
THE cousin of a North Devon soldier killed in Afghanistan last year has organised a fundraising event in his memory.
Dane Elson from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on patrol on July 5, 2009.
The 22-year-old was a former pupil of Great Torrington School.
Dane's cousin, Kate Elston, pictured left with a picture of him, has organised a summer party in his memory, which will take place on Saturday, August 21, at the Clinton Hall in Merton at 7.30pm.
Entertainment at the event comes from local band The Alchemists as well as a bar, buffet, raffle and auction. All proceeds will go to Help For Heroes.
Kate said: "When we heard that Dane had been killed, it tipped our world upside down.
"However, the whole family has really rallied together to raise money for charities close to Dane's heart. Even Dane's 71-year-old grandad has done a skydive in his memory which raised more than £10,000."
Tickets for the party cost £15 per adult and £7.50 per child which includes a buffet and live music.
