No-one had lived in the house for 37 years when Ms Allsopp bought it and set about transforming it on a shoestring budget, scouring local second-hand shops, salvage yards and auction houses to furnish the entire property for just £23,000.
During the six months it took to do up the house, Ms Allsopp also learnt 18 different crafts, many of them from people in the West Country, and made the most of local facilities.
Helpful Holidays describes Meadowgate as a large, totally secluded detached property, half-a-mile from Welcombe Mouth beach surrounded by meadows and woods in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It is midway between Hartland and Bude with a pub and shop within a mile in the hamlet of Welcombe.
The farmhouse sleeps 12, boasting five bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The interior is described as full of colour, fun and family comfort with wood, slate or tiled floors and under-floor heating. There is an open fire, kids' playroom with television, toys and games and a large kitchen/dining room with a six-oven electric Aga and old dresser, table tennis in the garage, an external warm shower and broadband.
Prices rise to £2,500 during the school summer holidays and £3,000 in December. For more information visit www.helpfulholidays.com
