LANDKEY TOWN will represent the North Devon Journal League in the Pivot Trophy against the Hodgson Insurance Kingsley League.

The annual charity game between the two leagues is at Torrington's Vicarage Field on Wednesday from 7.30pm.

Invited as reigning Intermediate One champions, Landkey hope to reunite most of last year's title-winning squad.

Manager Mike Rippon said: "We should have a reasonable side out to represent North Devon.

"I want near enough the same team that won the league last year. It will be an interesting game and it's for a good cause."

All proceeds from the game are donated to cancer charities and the trophy is played for in memory of journalist Ralph Stacey.

Since Landkey won promotion to the Senior Division, Maurice Charley and Rob Paton have both left to join Barnstaple AAC in the Premier Division.

But Rippon hopes they will be back in the line-up along with main goal threat Kieran Heywood whose availably has been restricted by work this season.

Craig Scott is back after injury and Steve Bulpett, out with a long-term knee problem, has been asked to join the occasion.

He scored a stunning goal against the Kingsley League the last time Landkey represented North Devon, with a 4-1 win in 2004.

This year's Kingsley League side has been selected by Bob Colebrook-Clarke of Black Torrington and Bridgerule's Mike Tape.

Champions Black Torrington will be well represented through John O'Donoghue, Ricky O'Donoghue, Tim Strand, Dan Andrew and James Berry.

Scott Wilson of Bridgerule and Holsworthy's Dean Chidley have also been invited, while the team will be completed by players from Phoenix Rising, Lifton and Week St Mary.

While it is never easy for representative sides to gel instantly, the Black Torrington contingent certainly know how to get the better of Landkey.

Last season, the Kingsley League winners beat the Journal League side in the Torridge Cup and the North area final of the Devon Intermediate Cup.

The Kingsley League are hoping to regain the trophy after North Devon, represented by Combe Martin Reserves, won it 2-1 at Holsworthy last year.
