A GARDENER from North Devon will this year stage a display at a prestigious national gardening show.

Lauren Davis, 31, who lives in Pilton with daughter Emily and partner Joss Benyon, is among three winners selected nationally to display her own garden design at the BBC Gardeners' World Live in Birmingham.

She will receive £5,000 to build a 25sq m garden which will be showcased at the Grow Your Own area of the show between June 16 and 20.

Miss Davis, who is currently unemployed, said: "This is a really amazing opportunity.

"It's the first time I've had the time to enter a competition like this because I have not been working. It's going to be a lot of work now until the show — it's like doing a full-time job."

Miss Davis, who moved to North Devon in July last year, formerly worked as a gardener and also has an honours degree and post graduate diploma in landscape architecture.

Her garden, which uses edible plants such as cabbages and carrots and plants loaned from St John's Garden Centre, is called Calm and Centred.
