AN elderly man was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after falling on rocks near Northam Burrows.

The 82-year-old was taken to North Devon District Hospital by the Chivenor search and rescue crew at about 4.30pm.

He was found by a member of the public who contacted the emergency services.

Westward Ho! coastguard and ambulance teams were also at the scene alongside the Chivenor crew which included pilots Oli Padbury and Hugh Pierce, winch operator Martin Seward and winchman paramedic Andy Penrose.
