Man found dead at flat in Water Lane Close, Barnstaple

A man has been found dead at a property in Barnstaple this morning.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the flat in Water Lane Close, in the Newport area, at 11.42am.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the man, who is believed to be in his sixties, was pronounced deceased on arrival.

It is understood a housing officer made the discovery.

Police said the death is being treated as "unexplained", although there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.

Officers carried out investigations at the scene this morning and police are currently preparing a report to hand over to the coroner.

A post mortem examination is expected be carried out over the next few days.
