He is also accused of leaving the Cedars Inn hotel, also in Barnstaple, without paying his £223.21 bill.

Prouse allegedly committed a third incident of fraud in Clevedon, North Somerset, when he is said to have left the Star Inn Hotel on October 12 without paying a £283.85 bill.

He also appeared in court charged with possessing and intending to supply cannabis.

He is alleged to have had 70.8 grams of the class B drug in his car and 374 grams in his home in Plymouth.

Prouse, who told the court he has since moved to Bedford Street, Barnstaple, withheld pleas to all four charges.

Due to the amount of cannabis allegedly found in his possession, that offence was committed to be dealt with at crown court.

Prouse also asked for the other three offences to be dealt with at crown court.

The case was adjourned for a committal hearing on January 25.
