A man was taken to hospital last night following a cooker fire at a property near Barnstaple.

Ambulance personnel contacted the Fire Service at around 11.55pm reporting a fire at a property in Park Villas, Bishops Tawton.

Two fire crews from Barnstaple attended the incident and confirmed a small fire involving a pan and cooker in the ground-floor kitchen.

Firefighters extinguished the fire before inspecting the premises to ensure it was safe.

The adult male was suffering from steam burns to his hand and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
