Marinaro spot kick earns victory for Barnstaple
BARNSTAPLE TOWN scored all five goals as they beat Wellington 3-2 in the Toolstation Western League on Saturday.
Wellington went ahead twice at Mill Road through own goals by Kevin Darch, the Barnstaple defender.
But Darch's team kept coming back and secured their fourth win in five attempts with a penalty by Ricky Marinaro in the last ten minutes.
While Owen Pickard, the Barnstaple manager, admitted it was "not their best performance", the win lifted them to second in the premier division table, behind leaders Bitton on goal difference alone.
Wellington took the lead after just 13 seconds when Darch deflected a cross into his own net.
Ryan Turner cancelled that one out when he beat the visiting goalkeeper in a one-on-one, only for Darch to make the same mistake to put Wellington 2-1 up.
Again Barnstaple came back though, and they were level by half time, with Billy Hopcroft firing into the far corner from 12 yards.
In the closing stages, Marinaro converted his second penalty in successive games to earn the three points.
