Cull and draft ewes, 394 sold, averaged 76.32ppk to a top of £112.
Hatherleigh market, Monday March 1, saw Vick's sell Prime Sheep with an excellent trade to average 170.31ppk. 37kg to £64.50 – 174.3ppk, 40.6kg to £69.50 – 171.1ppk, 43.1kg to £74.50 – 172.8ppk, 48kg to £84 – 175ppk, 48.7kg to £83.50 – 171.4ppk, 49.5kg to £85 – 171.7ppk, 55kg to £87.50 – 159ppk.
Draft Ewes saw a flying trade with best ewes to £100. Half meat ewes to £90, Plain ewes to £42.50, Rams to £86.
Store Sheep - Ewes and Lambs FM Double couples to £128, 6T Single couples to £108,
FM Bulah single couples to £88.Store Hoggett - Medium hogs to £57.50, Small hogs to £39.50.
Holsworthy: Kivells of Holsworthy saw the fantastic trade for store cattle continue with the best Limousin steers at £1,035.
Top in the store heifer department was £848 for a consignment of Limousins and plenty of heifers sold for between £780 and £800. The average was £641.70 and all is set for the March Fair next week with 400 already entered.
The prime cattle trade was even stronger than last week with Blue steers at £1,124.
Top was 157ppk The average for the day - to include a large percentage of Friesian steers - was 136.21ppk and £898.
A slightly smaller entry of cull cows saw trade rise by 6ppk on the week with best cows to 125.2ppk. Top of the day was £891 for a heavy weight cow. The market average was 96.9ppk and £675.
In the calf pens a slightly smaller entry of 73 saw a top of £332 for a bull calf. The average for the entire entry was £281.61.
In the sheep pens a much larger entry of cull ewes saw a full complement of buyers competing and trade rose by £8 - £10 per head on last week, topping at £110.50 for a pen of ewes. 510 lamb sold to a strong trade with top price at £89.50. The average for the day stood at 175.13ppk and £80.97.
A stronger entry of couples saw top of the day at £141 for Mule double couples. There was plenty of interest in the in-lamb ewe section, too, with a top at £118 for a pen of Jacob in-lamb ewes.
Kivells of Hallworthy saw an immense trade for the cattle from start to finish with just shy of 400 store cattle selling to a top of £940 for a pen of outstanding Limousin steers. The market average rose £19 on last week to £615.74.
In the prime cattle pens top of the day was £1,040 a run of Charolais steers. The market average was 134.43ppk.
A better entry of 17 cull cows saw a top of £825. The market average stood at £596.27 and 96.17ppk.
In the sheep pens a fantastic entry of 258 cull ewes saw a wonderful trade from start to finish with a top of £111.50. The market average rose by £7 on the week to £70.58.
In the prime hogg pens trade was sky high with a full complement of 6 buyers present taking the top lambs to £90. Premium of the day was 200ppk and the market average was 175.4ppk. 249 store lambs again saw a very strong trade with best lambs at £79.50 and others from the same good farm at £73.
A slightly smaller entry of couples this week saw a top of the day at £120 with strong couples to £60 per life.
