Meeting in Bishops Tawton addresses flood defence issues
Residents in Bishops Tawton have this afternoon turned out to discuss concerns over the village's recent floods.
Dozens of houses were affected by the floods which struck in the early hours of December 22.

They were joined by representatives from the Environment Agency, South West Water, Devon County Council and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service at the meeting in the village hall.
Various issues were raised about flood defences put in place since the last big flood in Bishops Tawton back in 2000.

John Taylor who lives in the village believes the Venn Stream flooded due to reinforced banks on the River Taw causing excess water to be forced back up the stream and over the A377.
"There are several issues," he said. "You can never stop water, but the flood prevention scheme which built the river beds up channels the water up the River Taw and up the Venn Stream when it is in full flow."
Andrew Millie, from the Environment Agency, said there were a number of contributing factors which resulted in the extreme floods including continuous rain on already saturated grounds in the lead up to Christmas.
