Morgan, Chidley double up for Magpies
ON the first day of the season, Holsworthy suffered a 4-0 defeat to newly-promoted St Dennis.
The return fixture on Saturday saw the Magpies hit four goals of their own to celebrate their first win in ten games.
Lee Morgan and Dean Chidley scored two each for a 4-2 success in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.
While they form one of the smallest strike partnerships in first division (west), Morgan and Chidley made a big impact.
Geoff Copp, the manager, said: "Our biggest issue has been scoring so to get four was rewarding.
"The players are giving me the best they can every week. If we can do that for the rest of the season there's no reason we can't head three or four places up that league."
The victory moved Holsworthy within two points of 14th-placed St Dennis.
They conceded the opening goal to Carl Rickard inside ten minutes but raised their standards and a double from Chidley either side of half time turned the tide.
He found space at the far post to slot the equaliser in the 43rd minute and added his fourth of the season with a side-foot finish.
Morgan tapped in to make it 3-1 and picked himself up to score the fourth after being brought down for a penalty.
The hosts saw Mark Rowe fire a penalty against the post before Lee Rickard hit their consolation.
New signing Danny Allen went on in Holsworthy's midfield at half time in place of John Elvins who went straight to the airport after the game to return to college in the USA.
Although Allen is a defender, Copp did not want to break up the partnership between Liam Dart and Richard Smith.
"Liam and Richard are doing very well," he said.
"Liam is controlling the back four. He reads the game very well, he's very committed and he's a good tackler."
Holsworthy do not play again until February 11 against Godolphin Athletic.
