Mum fined for truant children
A BIDEFORD mother will have to pay more than £850 after her children failed to attend school.
Barnstaple Magistrates Court convicted Karen Clifford, 45, from Riverside Close, in her absence.
The court heard her son had an 80% attendance rate at Bideford College between February 9 and June 26 last year.
The year eight student, who now lives and goes to school in Cornwall, had some 26 unauthorised absences.
Her daughter, who was in her final year of compulsory education, only turned out to 83% of lessons during the same period. She had also had 14 days of unauthorised holidays.
Clifford was issued with two £50 fixed penalty notice in September because of her children's absences, but did not pay either.
She was ordered to pay £350 per child for failure to secure regular attendance at a school, £150 in costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Grow up! maybe naming and shaming these people will encourage students to get out of bed and actually get to college, rather then slob about watching Jeremy Kyle, dreaming of when it's their turn to appear on it.
A year 8 student should be able to themselves up, dressed, and fed for school in the morning.
I guess you think her 'human Rights' have been infringed by naming the students mother, and printing the address. . . GOOD!
