Mum's Day contest winners
IT WAS a really tough job, but a winner has been chosen from the bountiful bunch of entries in the Exmoor Flowers' competition for Mother's Day.
Stephanie Kingston and Christine Bowden at the Lynton flower shop, challenged children from the local schools to draw a picture of their mum, holding a bunch of flowers.
The pictures are still adorning the windows of the shop in Lee Road, where mum's can now go along to try and spot the pictures of themselves.
The
Journal's
Kate Helyer judged the competition on Saturday and said: "I know people always say this, but it truly was a really difficult job, trying to choose a winner, when they were all such brilliant efforts.
But in the end I went for a bright colourful picture, over some of those which were very well-drawn — and apparently very good likenesses."
The winning entry comes from nine-year-old Tom Rose who did a beautiful rainbow backdrop to the picture of his mum.
He wins an Easter treat for himself — and a bouquet for his mum on Mother's Day, courtesy of Exmoor Flowers.
And because it was such a difficult choice, there is also a runner's up chocolate prize for Kalli-Anne Shephard, aged seven.
Kate said: "I loved the brightly-coloured jumper of this mum. It really was very tricky to choose between these two, so Stephanie kindly offered to give Kalli-Anne a second prize."
Pictures will remain in the shop windows until the day after Mother's Day.
