Mum's the word when it comes to flowers
EVERY child knows mums are special and children across the West Exmoor Federation of schools are being invited to say it with flowers this Mothers' Day.
Exmoor Flowers in Lynton are inviting all the primary school-aged children in the three schools to draw a picture of their mum, holding a bunch of flowers.

NICE TRY: Kate Helyer with a drawing of her mum. 1002-140_03
The pictures will be displayed in the windows of Exmoor Flowers in Lee Road, and judged by
Journal
community editor, Kate Helyer.
Shop owner Stephanie Kingston said: "There will be a small prize for the winner — and a bouquet of flowers for the winner's mum on Mother's Day.
"My son Russell is 22 now, but has always been artistic and when he was four he presented me with a lovely card with a picture of me, drawn very precisely.
"He said: 'I've only drawn three red dots on your face, but I know you've got more!'
"I always remember that when I think of Mother's Day cards and pictures."
Kate, who hopes lots of children are getting their felt pens ready, said: "My Mum still loves to receive anything that we have made or created ourselves, and has done since we were children because that extra bit of thought has gone into it. She's passed that on to me and now I love the cards and little creations that my children make for me — they're special and I do keep them all.
"I'm sure every mum who appears in the window will feel just the same. This competition brings that special home-made element of Mother's Day together with flowers.
"And I'm sure they'll come up with something far better than my hurried attempt — I'd better have another go before my Mum sees it!"
Entries should be on A5 paper with name, age and address on the back. They should be handed in at Exmoor Flowers by the closing date of Friday, March 5.
