Muse in line for handful of NME awards

Devon rock band Muse have been nominated for a glut of NME Awards.

The Teignmouth band, fronted by Matt Bellamy, have been shortlisted for the Best British Band award alongside Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors and Kasabian.

They are also nominated for being the best live band, and for having the most dedicated fans.

Bellamy is also shortlisted for the "Hero of the Year" gong, and for being the most attractive male in music.

The Arctic Monkeys lead the field with seven nominations including Best British Band, Best Album and Best Track for The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.

Noel Gallagher – who is due to pick up the prestigious Godlike Genius Award on the night – is up for another four gongs, including Best Album for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Best Solo Artist.

The event will be hosted by comic Jack Whitehall and will feature performances by acts including The Vaccines and Kasabian.

This year's NME awards will be held at the 02 Academy in Brixton, south London, on Wednesday, February 29.
