NDJ COMMENT: Surfs up on Heywood Roundabout
SO Mr Braddick has changed his mind.
He doesn’t want a giant deckchair on the Heywood Roundabout any more, he thinks a massive surfboard would be better.
We at the Journal don’t understand why a huge surfboard is somehow deemed more appropriate than a big deckchair, but it’s amusing none the less.
Whatever goes there has to be better than nothing, plus if it’s something potentially record-breaking like the surfboard then that could be good for the area publicity-wise.

But what’s wrong with a lovely floral display or some nice foliage?
It strikes us that we’re all trying to go a bit quirky art installation mental, and we are in danger of taking away from the area’s natural beauty with garish tat.
Now, this surfboard could be a good idea, plus it lets people know there is surf just around the corner, but let’s hope having a distraction like this on a roundabout doesn’t cause more bother than it’s worth.
