New affordable homes open at Ambrosia Close (formerly Bridge Meadow) at Lapford
THE first tenants have moved into a new development of 14 energy-efficient houses in Lapford.
South Western Housing Society has opened Ambrosia Close (formerly Bridge Meadow), a mix of two, three and four-bedroom affordable homes for rent.
-

Anne Robinson, of the housing society, said: "It is our priority to give people with strong local connections access to affordable homes and we aim to carry on with other examples like this in the South West."
The houses were built by Kier Living. They have exceptionally high levels of insulation and roof mounted solar panels to provide free energy for hot water and electricity. The firm says this will result in energy bills substantially lower than other new homes built to current standards.

“14 into £2million equals almost £143,000, each ! That's affordable ? Who's kidding who ?
It would be interesting to know how many tenants ( that's what the story says, not purchasers), are gainfully employed. The chances are that most of these tenants won't pay rent, but will claim Housing Benefit
Housing Associations like to do schemes like this, because it's something they can boast about in their Annual Reports.
A complete waste of public money.”

“Affordable?? Thats a joke! Affordable to who exactly??? I work in North Devon, have always worked, have saved up some money for a deposit but not enough to afford to buy a house on the open market...can i buy one of these houses, of course not....they're not even for sale, but rather just given away to people on the housing register, people who generally aren't working and live on benefits provided by the rest of us who don't have a hope of getting a house to live in! Affordable housing....maybe, as long as the working people of Devon pay for it for you!”
