New pizza takeaway for Barnstaple
A PIZZA chain has been given planning permission to open a takeaway outlet in Barnstaple.
Domino's successfully applied to North Devon Council to change the use of 61 Vicarage Street, the former Pioneer showroom, and to install new signs and an air duct.
-

In February this year Domino's was refused planning permission because the firm had not provided enough information about other possible sites, a local authority spokesman said.
The new outlet will be in competition with Piccolo Italia on the Strand, as well as a Pizza Express in the High Street and Giovanni's in Boutport Street.

“I am so pleased that Domino's is about to open in Barnstaple! Pizza Express is also great but only if you have an excessive amount of money in your pocket! Barnstaple Pizza Hut, has got to be the worst in the country, not just for the poor service or bad attitude or poor cleanliness or lack of stuff on the menu, Whitbread really need to sort that place out! Domino's are consistant, offer great pizza's, deliver.........and are everything you need from a take-away....oh and they don't usually have restaurants attached so unsure of the piece above saying it will be competition for the independents! So, with Costa, KFC, Burger King and the new Caffe Nero, are we to assume Starbucks will be next to arrive in Barnstaple?”

“Anon of Combe Martin - there is a decent independent in town it is Picolo Italia, I have never had a bad meal there and as you might have guessed I am currently a fan of the place.
I don't think any proper pizza places have anything to fear from either Pizza Hut or Domino's (the service at PH is pretty shocking and drove me away several years ago - I forgot what it was like and visited again recently, as a result I suspect I won't be back again for a few years).”

“How about a decent independent pizza restaurant? Another chain is no cause for celebration, even in North Devon where decent food competes with hens' teeth on the rarity scale.”

“anna, barnstaple. It is busy all the time. In fact so busy they cram you in. Your first request is then to ask for the table to be cleaned. Then you wait for an age for your cardboard pizza. Don't even get me started on the cleanliness of the toilets. Disgusting, the whole experience. Bring on Domino's.”

“tut tut Council Worker. Regardless of your view you should not be using the word "retard" in such a derogatory and challenging manner. I trust you are not in a position of any authority or you would know better. Please read your conditions of service and employers equal opp's/diversity policy, digest what you read and put it into practice.”

“Robert in London: this is a story and nothing like any advert I have ever seen in my entire life. If a new pizza place is opening, that is news. An advert would be promoting the pizza place, which this story does not. Barnstaple is not London; we have far fewer businesses like this (thank God). The story even mentions the other businesses it will be in competition with. Adverts don't do that, and they usually, you know, ADVERTISE something.”
