NICO FAASSEN heads into Barnstaple ABC's boxing show in confident mood after victory in Dorset.

Faassen recovered from a shaky start to beat Sturminster's Chris Adams, gaining his first win as a senior since returning to the sport last year.

Conceding weight advantage, Faassen looked in trouble and was warned for holding and punching below the waistline. But he sprang to life in the second round, turning the fight around with skilful shot-making and counter-punching.

The pair are scheduled for a rematch at Roundswell Community Centre on Saturday.

Barnstaple's Brandon Maddock will aim to overturn his defeat to Kyle Pearson when the pair meet again this week.

Maddock made a slick start at Sturminster before Pearson finished strongly.

Caught by powerful shots in the third, Maddock needed a standing count and held on until seven seconds from the end when another big right from Pearson forced the stoppage.

Some tickets are still available for the Roundswell show from Barnstaple ABC, the Corner House or by calling Mark Simpson on 07749 231121.
