RNLI lifeboat stations across the South West are celebrating the success of the charity’s SOS Day.

Crews, lifeguards and supporters across the region raised vital funds towards the RNLI’s lifejacket campaign by hosting a number of fundraising events on Friday, January 27.

The campaign aims to fund the provision of new, state of the art lifejackets at all 35 lifeboat stations in the region.

Ilfracombe lifeguards and lifeboat crew washed over 80 cars to raise more than £500 for SOS Day at the RNLI lifeguard support centre at the Mullacott Industrial Estate.

Jane Perrin, RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said: “We were delighted with the way the public supported us and had a constant stream of cars during the four hours. It was a cold, dry day perfect for the car wash, and even Stormy Stan was on hand with the hose.

“The public had a chance to have a tour of the RNLI lifeguard facility and enjoy some refreshments. On the Saturday night the crew held a ‘Sixties Or Seventies’ karaoke night, taking our total to over £600 for the weekend.”

She added: “Thanks to all those involved and to all our supporters.”

In Appledore, the volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew invited supporters to join them at the station to find out more about what they do, meet the crew, and ‘See Our Station’ whilst enjoying ‘Soup Or Sausages’ or ‘Sampling Our Shortbread’ . They raised £736.

    “Good job.
    Worthy cause.
I would urge everyone who gets the opportunity to donate where possible, one day it could be YOU.”
