North Devon Youth Court hears how disagreement on Facebook led to assault
A DISAGREEMENT on Facebook led to an assault in which a young victim suffered swelling, bruising and a nose bleed.
North Devon Youth Court heard that the attack took place last July outside a North Devon school.

The perpetrator, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the assault at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that he approached his victim at the end of the school day and punched him in the face a number of times. A teacher who intervened described the attacker as being aggressive and pumped up. He also had a chain wrapped around his hand at the time.

Initially, the defendant denied punching the victim or having the chain.
David Barnes, for the prosecution, told the court that the chain in his hand was akin to a knuckle duster.
Debbie Bakehouse, for the defence, said her client pleaded guilty and accepted he did have a chain in his hand on that day but had no intention of using it as a weapon.
He forgot he had the chain in his hand at the time.
She said her client and the victim had been having words on Facebook and there was a dispute.
The defendant told magistrates that what he did was wrong and he was sorry.
Magistrates gave him a referral order for eight months and told him to pay compensation of £50 to his victim.
