The world-famous artist has put his own stamp on the prize, adding the multi-coloured dots which he has used in many of his well-known artworks. His spots have been applied to numerous canvases and even a car over the years.
He follows Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sir Peter Blake in giving the statuette a makeover, and said he had been “honoured” to be asked.

On designing the statue, he said: "I am honoured to be asked to design this year's statue, it has become such an iconic award, I love the BRITs."
Hirst’s exhibition at Tate Modern last year was the most popular solo show ever staged at the gallery, attracting around 463,000 visitors, and helping the venue to record numbers through its doors.
The award has been unveiled ahead of tonight’s announcement of the Brits shortlists.
Tom Odell, the winner of this year’s critics’ choice prize, will get his hands on the trophy first when the 2012 winner Emeli Sande hands over the prize at the launch in London’s Savoy Hotel tonight.
Brits chairman David Joseph said: “Damien is truly one of the most important British artists and his reimagining of the statue will make winning a 2013 Brits an even more special proposition.”

“Dreadful, a child in nursery school could do better. Still after his obscene lump of metal that ruins the view at Ilfracombe this kind of rubbish is to be expected. This monstosity alone shows how incompetant the councils are. To be even asked to make it shows the BRIT awards organizers have strange minds. I too cannot stand his work.”

“How very insulting.
If my daughter came back from per school with such rubbish I stop sending her to a private school.
A 2 year old cold easily knock up something better than that.”

“What an abhorrence, looks like it was designed by a pre school class.
Not sure what people see in Hirst, can't think of anything he has done that merits the acclaim he so often receives.
Looks like a white statue with smarties glued on.
What does it eve symbolise??
Utter rubbish.”
