North Devon fire crews dealt with 365 chimney fires in last four years
Fire crews in North Devon have dealt with 365 chimney fires in the last four years.
Figures released today by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service reveal the total number of chimney fires attended across the two regions during the 2009 to 2012 period.

In North Devon, crews were called to a total of 149 chimney fires in the 2009/10 period, 126 in 2010/11 and only 90 in 2011/12.
Chulmleigh had the highest number of chimney fires in the four-year period, with crews being called out 43 times.

This was closely followed by South Molton which had 38 reported chimney fires and Barnstaple which had 36.
No chimney fires were attended on Lundy Island, perhaps unsurprisingly considering its low population.
Crews were called to only one chimney fire in Woolacombe throughout the four-year period, and only six in Appledore.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service dealt with a total of 2029 chimney fires across the two counties between 2009 and 2012.
Firefighters attended a total of 557 fires in the 2011/12 period, which was down on the 757 they were called to in 2009/10. In the 2010/11 period they were called to 715 chimney fires.
