North Devon on a plate pleases the celebrities
Jenna Linn finds out where the stars like to eat when they visit the area.
THERE are many top spots for nosh in North Devon but where do the celebs like to hang out when they visit?
It's the good old seaside classic, fish and chips, which seems to lure many a famous face to Squires in Braunton. TV presenter Davina McCall, Strictly Come Dancing star Camilla Dallerup (who declared them "the best fish and chips ever") and comedian Justin Lee Collins have all been spotted there.
Another celeb favouring his fish fresh from the fryer is multi-millionaire artist Damien Hirst. So much so he gave owners Cherry and Michael Squire a signed book which features a drawing of a shark and the words: "We love Squires, To Michael and Cherry".

Midsomer Murders star John Nettles, it appears, prefers something a little more hot and spicy. The actor, who lives in Pyworthy, regularly has a takeaway from The Bay of Bengal in Holsworthy and, according to restaurant manager Rachel Brooks, is partial to the odd lamb vindaloo or tandoori king prawns.
Hugh Grant, on his recent visit to the area, tucked into a bowl of mussels at Hobb's Bistro in Croyde, according to owner John Marsh. Top Gear presenter James May, meanwhile, headed to the Fullam Chinese Restaurant in Barnstaple during shooting for James May's Toy Stories. Singer Elkie Brooks also likes to eat there plus she goes to the Boston Tea Party.
However, perhaps the biggest hot-spot for celeb spotting is the Coach and Horses at Buckland Brewer. Landlady Nicki Wolfe can reel off an impressive list of visitors to this traditional thatched pub that serves meat and fish classics, including TV presenter Cilla Black, legendary musician Gary Brooker, actor Joss Ackland, five times golf grand open champion Tom Watson and Shauna O'Grady (better known as Dr Beverly from Neighbours).
