NORTHAM LIONS continued their excellent start to the senior division season by inflicting a first defeat on newly-promoted Woolsery.

Youngster Brian Levien struck twice, while new signings Darren Polhill and Ryan West maintained their goalscoring runs in the 4-1 success.

Goalkeeper Steve Ronald contributed to the team effort with a penalty save at a key moment in the game. He dived low to deny Nick Glover soon after Matt Lewis had cut the deficit to 3-1.

Glover had more luck from 12 yards against Torrington on Saturday, scoring twice from the spot after fouls by Dom O'Shea and Martin Galvin.

A cracking free kick from Tom Hawkes made it 3-0 before Glover completed his hat-trick in the second half.

Torrie replied through Craig Stewart and Sam 'Berbatov' Gratton, with his first for the club.

Pilton Academicals have made a confident start too, particularly after smashing five past champions Braunton.

The win came at a cost though, as Stuart McNeill broke his arm after scoring a diving header to cancel out the opener from Sam Nash.

Ronnie Richmond and Matt Hunt made it 3-1 by half time and James Gregory struck twice in the second half.

Braunton, much changed from last season, were grateful for the form of goalkeeper Jamie Duffey.

Confidence returned for Barnstaple AAC on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over South Molton thanks to Kane Dryden and a clinical hat-trick by Steve Isaac.

Shebbear United were much improved too, scoring six at Bude Town after John Clayton had put the Seasiders ahead.

Lone striker Shaun Sluggett rattled the equaliser in off the bar and United, with veteran Mike Edge in central defence, never looked back.

Sluggett added another, Matt Facey struck twice and Greg Mitchell and an own goal completed the tally after Jordan White had pulled one back.

Glen Waghorn's sweet left-footed shot sealed a 3-2 win for Shamwickshire Rovers after Kyle Hynd and Darren Reeks, from long range, put Torrington 2-1 ahead. Chris Allen rewarded Shammy's first-half pressure with the opener and Carl Hookway made it 2-2.

Former Swansea City captain Jason Smith came out of retirement to help depleted Chittlehampton but it was a tough evening for his team, conceding five at North Molton to Rupert Smith (two), Tim Perry (two) and Dan Chalk.

Hartland, still searching for their first point after four games, were no match for Park United as Kevin Buck blasted a hat-trick. Luke McGrath, Stephen Flood, James Corry, James Lee and Chris Cloke completed the eight-goal haul.

Jack Brown and Dan Chalk both scored twice for North Molton on Saturday and an own goal contributed to their 5-3 success at Hartland. Hallum Cook, David Edge and another own goal kept it close for the hosts.

Bratton Fleming were held by Barnstaple AAC for the first hour before Damian Green and a hat-trick from Liam Hawkins sealed the points. Karl Smith claimed the consolation.

Combe Martin took their pre-season form into their first game, going ahead against Shamwickshire Rovers after two minutes with Joe Seldon heading home a free kick from Ian Gaddes.

Veterans Gaddes, direct from a free kick, and Paul Reyner made it 3-0 before Carl Hookway offered Shammy some hope.

Their fate was sealed when Jamie Boast added the fourth from a solo run.

It was 0-0 between Park United and South Molton at half time, before nine goals followed in the second half.

Six of those went to Park with Ben Hayne (two), Adrian Barker, Mark Pooley, Marc Austin and Luke McGrath wrapping up their first win. Jamie Giffard, Chris Dent and Ryan Isaac replied.
