Almost 100 people were arrested in Devon and Cornwall during the New Year's Eve celebrations, police have said. Devon and Cornwall Police revealed there were 97 arrests – all for alcohol-related offences – a drop of about 50% on the figure for last year. The force said the drop in arrests could be down to revellers drinking less and looking after each other better. It also said more police officers had been out on the streets. Inspector for Newquay and St Columb Major Dave Meredith said he was "very pleased" with the operation in Newquay, which saw reduced disorder.

“The problem is the police just don't give a dam about the public as i of the victims of the recent criminal damage to cars in Torquay i have been told by a plastic policewoman ( a pcso)that there is nothing they can do because they don't have any witnesses or evidence all that was said on the phone they didn't even warrant sending a unit out after we called 999, i guess somone had just brewed up”

“Hughg****....they didn't arrest the MP - this was the sickening part of the whole affair

If I'd have spoken to the law as that particular MP is alledged to have done I'd have been arrested and slung in a cell quicker than I could have removed my cycle clips.

One law for one...another for the rest of us plebs.”

    “@smash4686
Exactly the same experience over a month ago!
I was almost attack by a group of thugs near Store 21, my mates defended me, I shot off to Nisa and got the staff member to radio police and once they arrived, they started treating us as the offenders, didn't stop the other group from getting into a cab, didn't PROFESSIONALLY establish what had happened and didn't take the time to speak to me, when I wanted to make a complaint and I was ready to go to court.

The police are as USELESS as a chocolate fireguard and are LAZIER than benefit thieves (at least the thieves put effort into their crime, stories, paperwork and their acting with the people questioning them!)
The police officers concerned, are going to have to send a VERY BIG APOLOGY and change their attitudes before they EVER regain any respect from me, ever again!!!”

“They did manage to arrest one Tory MP on his bike. And they only made up 95% of the story. Best Police farce in the world, we salute you, boys in blue.”

“Probably, smash4686, they'd arrested their quota for the day and didn't want to do the extra paperwork!”

“My mate was assaulted infront of five police officers and they refused to arrest the man. Might be why they've not made so many arrests this year eh? It's all about the figures to these guys. Less arrests means less crime apparently.”

“Well the Police don't seem to be able to catch arsonists in Torquay, after 12 months they are still operating at will. So perhaps the drop in arrests is down to incompetemce.”
