Oscar Wilde's The Importance Of Being Earnest is performed at the Landmark
DAZZLING wit and wordplay will get the weekend off to a winsome start on Friday. London Classic Theatre are in town to perform Oscar Wilde's best loved work, The Importance Of Being Earnest.
The scintillating comedy of manners promises wonderful characters, sparkling dialogue, gloriously improbable plot twists and a sprinkling of romance.
Jack is in love with Gwendolen. Algernon is in love with Cecily. But when an identity crisis spirals out of control, the previously separate worlds of the town and country collide and mayhem ensues.
Will Ramsey, writing in The Stage, said London Classic Theatre had unshackled Oscar Wilde's comedy with their version of the play, which seems less like a mannered drawing room farce and more as an exploration of one man's quest for his own identity.

"Under the direction of Michael Cabot, these members of the English upper classes seem flesh and blood, rather than mere mouthpieces for Wilde's sharpened wit. It remains extremely funny but there's no sense of the lines being played for laughs."
