Two common marmosets at Combe Martin Wildlife Park have become parents.

Belle and Fred, who have been at the park for about a year and a half, gave birth to triplets on January 6.

But joy turned to misery a week later when one of the marmosets stopped feeding and had to be taken away from the park to be cared for by a keeper.

Dawn Gilbert, owner of the park, said: "It was a bit smaller than the others and we noticed it wasn't feeding. We did intervene and the keeper took it home and fed it for the night and pulled it back. It was accepted by mum and dad but it died at a week old."

Dawn said it is extremely rare for marmosets to have triplets but said the other two are doing well.

"The other two are fab," she added. "They cling around the circumference of their mother's body, one on the front and one on the back and then they swap round."

The marmosets will remain at the park and will eventually form relationships and breed with other primates.
