PHOTOS: Freak hail storm at Exmoor Zoo leaves cars stranded
Hail stones the size of pennies rained down over Exmoor Zoo last night in a freak storm.
At around 3.30pm the hail began falling, lasting for about 15 minutes.
Customers at the zoo were unable to get their cars up the ramp and out of the car park following the downpour.
Lyn Reynolds, curator at Exmoor Zoo, said: "It went really black and there were claps of thunder and then there was this horrendous hail storm. Some of them were the size of pennies.

"We had a really good layer of hail and the customers that were in the zoo could not get out the car park. We had to clear the ramp.
"We sent some of the keepers and they literally had to sweep and clear the ramp.
"We had had a reasonably good day before that. I think it was fairly localised because people lower down in Barnstaple didn't have anything. I think people were fairly amused."
