She was suffering a head injury and was placed on a spinal board before being taken to North Devon District Hospital by ambulance, where she remains.

The male occupant of the Veloster, which is registered to an address in Norfolk, was treated at the scene by paramedics but is not thought to be seriously injured.

Fire crews made both the vehicles safe by disconnecting the cars batteries before moving them off the carriageway.

The road was blocked in both directions between the Blakes Hill Road junction and the Heddon West Buckley Road junction while crews dealt with the incident.

However, it has since been cleared and highways crews have recovered the vehicles from the roadside.
