PEOPLE contacting North Devon District Hospital by phone will speak to a computer before being transferred to a member of staff, from August 25.

The Northern Devon Healthcare Trust, which runs the hospital, has introduced a voice recognition answering system which asks callers for the name of the person or department they wish to speak to.

The Trust introduced a similar system for all internal calls in 2007 and saw an immediate decrease in the number of internal calls to the switchboard.

“Well this is certainly an improvement as the machine is a dambed sight more polite than the majourity of the staff, it even speaks English and understands what you say, it even manages to inform you that you are in fact connected to the hsopital rather than the "I'm P'd off with my job 'Hello' "recieved from receptionists.

The *majourity* of staff, including the so called "Chief executive" could learn a lot from their macines.

By the way Jac Kelly, my Son has recovered from your abuse and his liver is doing very well no thanks to you, see you at the ombudsman, its looking ever more like you rerally did pick on the wrong family this time, enjoy your summer holiday.”
